Impeccably designed by Maureen Ursino of Ursino Interiors, this home in Summit, NJ was designed for a young family looking for a modern farmhouse to pay homage to their family’s 200 year old farm in Pennsylvania. The clients wanted to create a home that was bright and fresh, yet comfortable and family friendly, and this talented designer achieved that with durable fabrics and a decor that is beautiful without being too precious. Truly speaking, all spaces seem to embrace you with comfort and a welcoming feel.
Family-friendly Home Design
You can’t help but feel the peacefulness of this home the moment you step in. The foyer paint color is Benjamin Moore OC-117 Simply White.
Furnishings: Many of the furnishings used in this home is custom and/or from vendors that are only available to the trade, therefore they are available through the designer. I will be sharing “similar” options for you convenience.
Mirror
A metal round mirror adds a subtle contrast in this foyer where white prevails.

Family Room
“The two most important factors for the family room and breakfast nook (located across from this space) were functionality and comfort. These are the two spaces my clients spend the most time in so we knew the furnishings and finishings had to be durable enough to accommodate a busy family, while also still feeling stylish and cohesive with the rest of the home.” – Maureen Ursino.

Dining Room
What a fun and gorgeous dining room! Isn’t this dining table great?! I absolutely love the causal feel of this space and not having a rug under the table is ideal when you have small children. These chairs are easy and practical to keep clean!

Living Room
When designing both the living and dining rooms, we wanted the spaces to feel inviting and approachable, but also have some formality because the family enjoys entertaining and hosting gatherings often. We focused on furnishings that had tailored, clean lines and brought in warmth through the use of textiles and textures that felt a little more casual to achieve this balance.
Ottoman was custom-designed by Ursino Interiors.

Bringing the seating pieces closer to the fireplace make this room feel cozier and more inviting.

Sunroom
“The sunroom is my favorite part of the home! It’s a small bright den off the dining room, so it was important we kept the consistency of formal, yet approachable, but we also really wanted this room to feel like a special place you could escape to and relax. We continued with the use of whites, warm greys, and different wood tones. We also installed an oversized pendant and really focused on little details such as creating a corner for a small liquor cabinet so that the couple could truly use the space to put their feet up and decompress after a busy day.” – Maureen Ursino.

Layers
The combination of textures, layers with the neutral color scheme make this entire place feel peaceful… it’s almost as if you never want to live this home, and that’s the best feeling, and the best complement, you can give to any house.
