If you’ve read the blog you know how much I love Jamie Gernert‘s work (previously featured here & here) and today I am really excited to be sharing her kitchen. Here, the designer shares some details about her new kitchen design:
“When it comes to designing a home, I love starting with the kitchen. It’s the most involved but also sets the tone for the rest of the house. We revised the layout of our kitchen a couple times, before we got it just right. It was important to me to have the sink at a window and to have a large range focal wall. With those two things in mind, the island turned out to be more of a stand alone furniture style piece which I love.
The overall color palette is very monochrome and neutral with a lot of natural elements like White Oak and natural stone.”
New Kitchen Design
“The feel of the kitchen is grand but homey and elegant all at the same time. We love cooking and hanging out here and it blends all the styles of our home so beautifully. I was going for a California Casual feel and I couldn’t be happier.” – Jamie Gernert
Island Design
“I get a lot of questions about our island – it started out as a rough sketch and then I tweaked it with our custom cabinet maker – the color, shape and tone of the base is beautiful and the large stone slab (extra thick!) was the icing on the island cake!” – Jamie Gernert

Kitchen Sink Window
“With the sink window being so large, I didn’t do upper cabinets there either – instead I opted for beautiful open shelving to tie in the brass hardware and to let the vertical shiplap at that wall shine through. It adds texture, dimensions and a personal touch to that side of the kitchen.”

“We took the cabinets to the ceiling at the refrigerator wall to create a more custom look and paneled most of our kitchen appliances to keep things light and neutral. With no upper cabinets anywhere else it was a way to make use of additional storage space.”

Pantry
The walk-in pantry is a natural extension of the kitchen. It has a beautiful window with a courtyard view that lets in a ton of light. We kept it very simple and neutral in there but that is where we have our microwave and wine fridge.
Many thanks to the designer for sharing the details above.
